VISIT WEBSITE

At Jorvik Viking Centre you are standing on the site which revealed some of the most famous and astounding discoveries in modern archaeology. Between the years 1976-81, archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust found the houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik, as it stood 1,000 years ago.

Your first experience of Jorvik is an exploration of the Coppergate Dig, with a fully immersive display taking you back to the 1970s. Here you will hear the stories of the archeologists who were involved in the revolutionary excavation and helped piece together the story of the Viking of Jorvik, where they came from, how they lived and where they travelled to.

York Minster

Beechwood Close Hotel
VISIT WEBSITE

The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Saint Peter in York, commonly known as York Minster, is the cathedral of York, England, and is one of the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. The minster is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the second-highest office of the Church of England, and is the mother church for the Diocese of York and the Province of York.

York Minster is run by a dean and chapter, under the Dean of York. The title “minster” is attributed to churches established in the Anglo-Saxon period as missionary teaching churches, and serves now as an honorific title. Services in the minster are sometimes regarded as on the High Church or Anglo-Catholic end of the Anglican continuum.

At York’s Chocolate Story you can discover the stories behind the greatest names in chocolate, unwrap the secrets of chocolate making, and even learn the art of the chocolatier for yourself. A fully guided tour and three floors of interactive exploration take you on a journey through the city where chocolate made history.

While other British cities were built on steel, coal or wool, York’s fame and fortune have rested on chocolate for almost 300 years: thanks to the vision and invention of its great entrepreneurial families, not to mention the industry and dedication of its people. Though much has changed over the centuries, York remains the UK’s home of chocolate.

Yorkshire Air Museum

Beechwood Close Hotel
VISIT WEBSITE

The Allied Air Forces Memorial and Yorkshire Air Museum is a living memorial to all allied air forces personnel particularly those during the Second World War, and especially the tens of thousands of young people who gave their lives in that conflict. The aim is to be relevant to present day generations by explaining, in a realistic way, what life was like on a typical wartime bomber station, as well as displaying the history of aviation.

Yorkshire has a particular place in aviation, both historically and present day. From Sir George Cayley, the world renowned Father of Aeronautics, to present day aircraft manufacturerers. We are justly proud of the region’s heritage, and throughout the museum you can explore aspects of design and technology dating from the 1850s right up to the present day.

York Ghost Walk

Beechwood Close Hotel
VISIT WEBSITE

The Ghost Hunt of York offers an evening, walking ghost tour of York`s haunted locations.

Whatever the weather and always on time, the Victorian guide with his frock coat, top hat and Gladstone bag manifests at the strike of half past seven at the bottom of Shambles, England’s most famous mediaeval street. Ringing his death bell he gathers the awaiting ghost hunters and leads on to York`s darker side.

The Ghost Hunt presents classic York ghost stories in a captivating style, no tardy tales of tedium but intelligent, energetic accounts from a guide with a predilection for fun and entertainment, illustrating the narrative with props and illusion.

Great stay as always

After staying here a few times before I must say the stay gets better each time. Excellent staff, especially Denise……great lady had me and my wife laughing all weekend (in a good way). Great location, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city centre (about 10 minutes maximum walk). Great breakfast in the morning, really sets you up for the day. I will be staying here again in the future, and I must say it’s a pleasure to stay here. Thanks to all the staff who do a great job making people’s stay pleasant. Keep up the good work.

Friendly staff, wonderful stay

Myself and my husband stayed for 2 nights at this hotel and we received a very warm welcome. In the evening we had a few drinks in the bar where we got chatting to a nice couple who had brought their well behaved dog and the lady behind the bar was very bubbly and chatty, she also served breakfast which I must say was tasty and lots of it. We had a meal in the hotel the second night and the menu was full of lovely choices and again the food was really nice, we will definitely go back to this hotel. Our room was clean with comfortable beds and tea-making facilities.

Nice

Arrived at 5 on Friday greated by a lovely lady who ordered us a taxi for the evening and showed us to out room. Room had everything we needed. Iron , hairdryer . Tea/coffee facilities, Bathroom was clean and decent size. We didn’t stay for evening meal but viewed menu , plenty of choice. There was a lovely little bar which had all drinks..plenty for breakfast and food was nice. Nice area, nice people, nice b&b, would deffinately recommend . It is outside York city center 1.2 miles but surely you would check this before you book. I would go back.

Good and friendly staff willing to go above and beyond

The staff at the hotel we’re very friendly and any special requests were met (room change). For a small hotel the bar was well stocked with something for everyone. With the hotel being located on a main road you can’t hear any traffic and I had a very quite sleep.

Lovely little gem of a hotel

Lovely clean little hotel just a mile from the centre of York. The staff were very friendly, nothing was to much trouble. We stayed with 3 children in a lovely big family room, very quiet at night. The breakfast at this hotel is the best we have had at a hotel, it was brilliant. The beds were so comfy. Great place, we will be staying here again when are in York…Thank you for a great stay. The Roberts family.

Lovely hotel

Really lovely hotel, very friendly staff!
The bed was really comfy and the rooms were nice and airy.
Bar is well priced and not expensive. The food too, was good and well priced. We only had breakfast on one day but there was a lot of choice! The garden out the back was peaceful and well kept.
Will most definitely be back again 🙂

York visit

Just returned from a 2 night break at this nice little hotel, we arrived early but the kind lady on reception let us check in so we could go out and start exploring York, the room we had was very spacious and clean and bed very comfortable it also had a nice bar area and restaurant that we had dinner in on one of the nights of our stay and the food me and my partner had was exceptionally good. It is about a 15 minute walk to the city centre or 5 minutes to the bus stop . We will certainly be happy to stay in this hotel again.

Should be number one

We stayed 2 nights a few days ago, and in my opinion this is everything a family hotel should be. Everyone is welcoming and helpful, the children receiving as much attention as the adults. The food is excellent, with lots of choice, we had lunch on the second day as well as the breakfast. The rooms are warm, the beds comfortable and the towels fluffy, what more could you want! Our room was at the side of the hotel and the traffic was not a problem. Wi-fi is available, for which we were grateful and also a comfortable lounge/bar which we were able to use during the day. A successful visit, thank you Claire.
